St Andrew's 8th course

Now for the good stuff…

Last week E and I decided to ballot for the old last Saturday, and we were lucky enough to get it! It was looking like the best day we had seen in a while, clear skies and the temperature reaching 12 C, too good to be true, and indeed it was…. After a mere 4 hours of sleep and a 6:30 am wake up we were so pumped that we got there with 20 minutes to spare, never seen before for any member of the Green.

Sadly as we tried to check in, we were informed our tee time had been canceled because of the frost😭 . What alternatives were we given by the Links? Absolutely none, there wasn’t a single spot on the 7 courses of St Andrews and they couldn’t even book us a tee time for Sunday!! After really trying to get an alternative and not being able to, we decided to create our own course.

But where can you set up another course in St Andrews? Easy, West Sands🏖️. In Seve fashion, we brought our bags to the beach and founded the 8th golf course of St Andrews.

It was actually surprisingly good, the greens were more pure than some of the courses and it was quite the challenge. We were able to play all kinds of shots, we even had a very similar replica to the 17th at TPC.⛳

I have to say whereas Patrick and E were dealing just fine with the Sand, the young matador turned into the young excavator😂, I might as well have played with a shovel. Either way, it turned out to be a great day, who could have thought you could build more courses in town.

Now you know, if you come to St Andrew's and don’t manage to get on any of the courses, you can always draw out your own course, you could go as far as saying you played The Old (it's close enough).
