Smashing My Bench Press PR

I don't think there is anything quite as satisfying as reaching a goal. You get your notebook out take a deep breath and while you think about what it took to get there, you start crossing it out from yur goal list, aghhh what a feeling! That moment came last night when I FINALLY hit 80kg on bench press!!
You might be asking yourself, is it that big of an achievement to have to write a blog post about it? For me it definitely is! Why? I'll tell you why:
My gym journey started in August 2021 when I barely weighed 65kg. It was simply one more thing I had to do as a golf scholar, and trust me, I wasn’t excited to be working out next to people 4 years older and 30 pounds heavier than me.
What started off as fear or embarrassment rapidly became motivation. I realized that being the weakest on the team only meant one thing: I had the biggest room for improvement and was ready to work harder than anyone. There was only one problem… I had ABSOLUTELY NO CLUE what I had to do in order to get stronger.
This is where my teammates and coaches came in. The more intimidating guys became my biggest supporters, and with help from my coaches I started following a personalized program 5 days a week.
Results started coming in quick, and by December I weighed 72 kg, what started off as a 30 kg bench press suddenly turned into 50kg, the 110 clubhead speed turned into 116, and the laziness became eagerness to work out. After seeing such results, who wouldn't get hooked?
Little things like getting complimented by friends and family kept me going, and by May 2022, I deadlifted(Hex bar) 150 kg, more than 2X my weight!
Now the gym has just become a part of my daily routine, it’s a space where I get to challenge myself physically and mentally while I take care of my health. I absolutely love working out, but don’t be fooled, I still have to make an effort to get myself to the gym, not even Wim Hof's body is begging him to get out of bed in an early cold morning just to lift a couple heavy disks. But that is one of the beauties of going to the gym, it's always an opportunity to drop the excuses and get to work. I truly believe that getting out of your comfort zone is the only way to grow.
I want to leave you with a one quote that really motives me:
“No man has the right to be an amateur in the matter of physical training. It is a shame for a man to grow old without seeing the beauty and strength of which his body is capable.”
-Socrates
If you're more into the marine type of motivation here is a bit of David Goggings for you.
They don't know me son!
Take care,
The Spanish golfer.
